Mid-Century Garden
Contemporary Estate located in the San Rafael area of Pasadena. Owners contracted with Glen Hampton garden designs to completely renovate the existing gardens. GH Garden Designs decided to create an updated version of a mid-twentieth-century contemporary landscape, inspired by the works of the modernist Landscape Architect Garrett Eckbo. A combination of aggregate and washed finished concrete surfaces covers the entry motor court, walkways, and patio areas.
An architectural wall fountain tiled in glass mosaics provides the focal point leading to the dining terrace. The dining terraces contemporary styled cook center has a poured in place concrete counter top with an integrated sink. The built-in concrete cantilevered dining table, with retro molded plastic chairs, provides a sculptural landscape element.
A contemporary fire pit filled with Indigo Fireplace Crystals and surrounded by formed concrete bench walls, provides a warm inviting setting to view the Arroyo after dark on cool chilly evenings.
The contemporary natural concrete planters from Inner Gardens were selected for their clean lines and geometric forms. Succulents, cactus, and grasses were chosen as the plant pallet, for their sculpture qualities. Custom designed landscape night lighting completes the desired effect.
